This dashboard light involves the airbag system and is a major safety issue
There are a number of dashboard warning lights that can pop on at any minute. Everyone knows what the oil light and battery light are for, but a lot of them require pulling out the owners’ manual. In the coming months, we are going to take a look at different lights and what they stand for to help make it a little clearer.
This light is the airbag warning light and it will illuminate if there’s a problem with the airbag system in the car. The problem could be that airbags were deployed and not properly reset, that there’s a sensor malfunction, or the system senses that it can’t activate the airbags. This means they might not deploy if you get in an accident.
If this light is lit, the car should be looked at by a professional. Bring it in and our trained technicians will run a diagnostic on the airbag electronic control unit, figure out the issue and fix it so you know you’re protected in the event of an accident.
Again, you can drive your vehicle if this light is on, but there are no guarantees that some or all of the airbags will deploy in the event of an accident. Without that important safety system intact, we recommend have the problem corrected as soon as possible.
